Interesting Odontopleurid and Styginid TrilobiteDescription: This plaque shows a pair of trilobite of widely disparate morphology. I saw my first example of the first one 10 years ago at the Tucson show and called it a “stovepipe” due to the robust occipital spine only found in this taxon. While the authors placed it within Kettneraspis, they attached a question mark to designate it combined features. The second trilobite looks much like a run-of the mill example of Paralejurus, but the pygidium is not typical. This one is known as Paralejurus spatuliformis. The genus derives its name from the spatulate pygidium which is far different from the vaulted forms of Paralejurus dormitzieri for example. It is most closely related to the contemporaneous Paralejurus richteri of the Czech Repulic and younger Paralejurus galloisi from France.
