Struveaspis TrilobitesDescription: This speoimen comes from a new location known as Jorf in Morocco, close to the site from which the polished goniatite ammonites originate. The preservation of the exoskeleton is reminiscent of them in terms of texture, unlike many trilobites from Morocco. The trilobite with the smooth cranidium is a Struveaspis. Struveaspis is a most uncommon taxon found in the Devonian of Morocco and the Czech Republic. The other trilobite is a bit of an enigma.whenever I have a problem with identification of Moroccan trilobites I turn to an acquaintance I know from the West Coast who has an encyclopedic knowledge of the material. While it has the 5 eye facets in a file like Barrandeops ovatus, it has a more coarse granulation on the glabella, more like the genera Drotops, Pedinopariops, or Hypsipariops, but is unlike any known examples of those. Let us just use Phacopida indet for the time being.
