Detailed Octillaenus Moroccan Trilobite

Octillaenus beningnensis

Trilobites Order Corynexochida, Suborder Illaenina, Superfamily Illaenoidea, Family Illaenidae

Geological Time: Middle Ordovician

Size) Trilobite is 27 mm long

Fossil Site: Jebel Aghrou-Amjoute, Ihndare, Morocco

Octillaenus beningnensisDescription: This unusual trilobite comes from the Ordovician deposits near Ihndare, Morocco. It is a member of the Illaenidae, trilobites more frequently seen from Europe (particularly in the case of this genus in Spain and the Czech Republic). It has recently been reported from deposits in Morocco as well, lending credence to the adoption of a common chronographic scale for these regions. Its identification adds to a growing list of Moroccan Illaenids, a group heretofore thought to be poorly represented.
