Solnhofen Anaetalion angustus Fossil FishDescription: Presented is a very rare species of fossil fish from this famous collecting locality. The positive was affixed to the negative plate to structurally strengthen the specimen. Note the large size of the plate (3.5 kg shipped weight). According to my German collector, tradition dictates that the plates are never cut down and reduced in size. The natural beauty and aesthetic of the full plate as excavated is very important to the presentation. These deposits were formed in a warm salt-water lagoon. All kinds of plants and animals were incredibly well preserved, including soft bodied organisms and the world's most famous fossil Archeopteryx.
