Jehal Biota Lycoptera Fish FossilComing from the Jehol Biota, Lycoptera is part of an extremely diverse faunal and floral fossil assemblage from the Lower Cretaceous in what is now Liaoning Province in China. The environment was primarily wetlands and numerous fresh water lakes, and provided for exceptional fossil preservation, often including soft tissues, including both the The Yixian and Jiufotang Formations Under intense paleontological study for several decades, these Lagerstätten have yielded many important fossils, including the early birds and feathered dinosaurs. Lycoptera davidi was a smallish fresh water fish that lived from the upper Jurassic to lower Cretaceous.
