Stenophlebia Solnhofen Limestone Dragonfly FossilDescription: Presented is a very good example of one of the most recognizable fossil genus from the Solnhofen limestone deposits. All the wings are present, displaying the fine venation. It sits comfortably on a large thick plate of lithographic limestone. The Stenophlebia is a subdued, light yellow color, residing on the right hand side of the dendrite, embroidered plate. The plate was cracked and repaired. The crack runs through the tip of the specimen’s thorax.

This spectacular fossil comes from the lithographic limestone Solnhofen deposits of Germany. These 150 million year old deposits are famous for their exceptionally well-preserved organisms, the most famous of which are the handful of specimens of the ancient bird Archaeopteryx.
