Horse Teeth FossilsDescription: This is a collection of Equus sp. teeth that were discovered in the Suwannee River, Suwannee Co., Florida. They are large, solid, heavy, and have excellent river polish. These assorted teeth came from a horse that roamed Florida during the last Ice Age, over 10,000 years ago. The horse originated in America. Approximately 10,000 years ago the Horse went extinct in the Americas, probably due to rapid environmental changes and over-hunting. It was re-introduced to the Americas when the Spanish colonized in the 16th century.
