Description: This amber piece displays a fine example of two members of the Pteromaildae or Pteromalid Wasps. These tiny wasps are known to parasitize other insects, laying eggs within the body to hatch and consume the still-living prey. Others parasitize insect larvae and still others the eggs of other insects. All are small wasp, some 1-2 mm in length. There are over 3500 known extant species.
