Nice Modocia typicalis Trilobite with Healed Bite Mark

Description: This fully adult sized specimen is a light chocolate brown color, perfectly preserved, with intact genal and pleural spines. It resides comfortably on a small plate of Marjum shale. Of particular note is the missing left genal spine. If you look closely, it is apparent the wound had sealed and healed. Perhaps the spine was lost to a hungry Anomalocaris! It is a classic species from one of the world’s most important Cambrian trilobite localities. This specimen comes from a small lot of Modocias I just purchased. They have become uncommon over the last few years, as the sites had not been collected professionally for years prior.
