Flexicalymene granulosa TrilobiteDescription: I have recently acquired a selection of Ordovician and Devonian trilobites from New York State, all of which are distinctive in terms of preservation, unique preservational features, or unusual heritage. This plate displays a superb Flexicalymene granulosa trilobite.. The granulose exoskeleton is indicative of Flexicalymene granulosa, the calymenid known from the Pulaski Shale. They are not all that frequently available, and this one carries a small pyritized epibiont on the left pleural lobe near the pygidium. Epibionts are organisms that live on the surface of another. While some can be harmless, others can be parasitic. See my other offerings for another unique example.
