Quercus
simulata (oak)
|
Description: A small and very well preserved collection of Fossil flora from Central Nevada. The centerpiece of this collection is the undetermined seed or fruit preserved on the plate with the laurel oak specimen. This collection is from a different locality than the other Nevada collections I am showing. It is about one million years older and is preserved volcanic ash. Nevada has many fossil plant producing localities. They show that the state once had a much wetter and more temperate climate back in the Miocene. There were many more lakes in what is now the driest state in the USA. The Sierra uplift dramatically changed the climate and rainfall in the state. The specimens will be fully labeled. |
