Albertosaurus DinosaurEarly paleontologists like Edward Drinker Cope explored here as early as 1876. Albertosaurus is a genus of tyrannosaurid theropod dinosaur that lived in western North America during the Late Cretaceous Period, more than 70 million years ago. The genus derives its name from Alberta, the Canadian province in which the first specimens were found. It was a meat eating dinosaur with more than 60 banana shaped teeth in its large jaws:
