Description: These well preserved ammonites have an interesting place in British folklore. Thought to be snakes with their heads torn off and thrown over the cliffs, locals when finding the concretions below at tide level would often, over the centuries, carve the heads back into the matrix. Known as “snakestones” they were considered as lucky charms.
