Site: Crawfordsville, Indiana Famous Crawfordsville Crinoids
Description:
Well-preserved example of a Camerate crinoid known as Platycrinites
niotensis (Family Platycrinitidae). This species of Platycrinites
has a less contorted stem than some such as Platycrinites hemisphericus
and P. saffordi. The crinoid is very three-dimensional in aspect,
with preservation of the fine pinnules quite evident, and much of
the stem attached. This is a fine example of the variety of diverse
crinoids to be found in the Crawfordsville deposits. |
