Chlustinia
keyserlingi
Trilobites
Order Lichida,
Family Odontopleuridae
Geological
Time: Ordovician
Size: 60
mm long
Fossil Site:
Mount Issimour, Alnif , Morocco
Description:
Here is one of the more rare trilobites of the Order Lichida,
Family
Odontopleuridae known as Chlustinia keyserlingi. This particular
example is quite large at 60 mm in length from the dramatic
cephalon to the
wonderful pygidial spines, and has a "wingspan" of 44
mm at the genal spines. Notice that the librigenae are tightly
attached,
a sign of a well-articulated specimen. It is quite prone, and dominates
its bed of matrix. Few are ever offered; I have seen 3 personally
inn the last 5 years, none as well-preserved as this example, which
is exceptionally 3-D for an Ordovician trilobite.
