The horseshoe crab, still extant, and often considered
the closest relative of the trilobites, meets the morphological
criteria as a Protichnites trackmaker. It is a multi-legged
arthropod with a prominent telson. However, no horseshow crab
exoskeletons have been found in the Krukowski quarry, leading
to the question, was it a softbodied reletive of them.
