This cycad trunk section is quite well preserved. Like many plants, separate names have been applied to leaves, leaf fragments, cones, and stems due to the fact that only rarely is an intact specimen found. Cycads were a common plant of the Jurassic; indeed, it is sometimes referred to as the Age of Cycads. They are still extant today, although a minor player on the plant stage, of which the “Sago Palm” (Cycas revoluta) is the best known. This on has received a fine polish to the display side, while the reverse has received a protective epoxy coating.
