Impressive Triassic Ammonite Assemblage

Name: Ammonites: Frechites occidentalis & Frechites nevadanus and 2 brachiopods

Size (25.4mm=1 inch): Matrix 4" X 5" (100mm X 125mm) Largest F. occidentalis 1 1/3" (33mm), Largest F. nevadanus 1 15/16" (49MM)

These Triassic ammonites coming from Nevada likely swam the seas with the first Ichthyosaurs (large sea going reptiles that looked like dolphins), for which they were probably a major food source for the Icthyosaurs. This was also a time when the various continents of moderns times comprised a single landmass called Pangaea.

This particular plate contained two different species, Frechites ocidentalis and nevadites furlongi that are seldom available. They are found in a very hard limestone and are very difficult to prepare, which is why they are rarely seen on the market. These are the best examples of these ammonites I’ve collected, and that was some 20 years ago.
