Paradoxides TrilobitesParadoxides are among the largest of trilobites in the world (note: some species are also very small). The genus is found in North America, North Africa, Europe and other localities. What I have always found astonishing is that this big bug comes from the Lower Cambrian, that is, early on in the Cambrian explosion. No wonder Darwin was worried out his theory - such big trilobites existed in the early Cambrian, with no fossils then found from the Precambrian.

Paradoxides seems a quintessential example that the Cambrian saw more than an explosion of diversity, it also realized an explosion of size since the appearance of hard, protective exoskeletons provided the structural support needed for an animal to advantageously adapt to larger size.

Unfortunately, a very small percentage of Paradoxides are well preserved. Thus, restoration of 30 to 70% or more is common in commercial specimens. Complete specimens are almost never found and recovered. Recovery of multiple Paradoxides on the same plate is also very uncommon.

This natural double plus is of superb quality with less than 15% restoration. Given the quality, it is offered at a bargain price. Also note the flat color, since no paints or sealers have been applied to the naturally-colored surface.
