Scyphocrinites sp. (pelagic Camerate crinoid)

Age: Upper Silurian

Size: (25.4mm=1 inch): matrix: 11.6 by 9.4 inches; crowns: about 4.8 and 4.3 inches, respectively

Location: Djebel Issoumour, Alnif, Morocco

Code: MC1

Price: $185.00 - sold

This is a nicely preserved example of the Camerate crinoid Scyphocrinites sp. Note the bulbous structure near the base thought to be a float enabling large colonies of Scyphocrinites to lead a migratory pelagic existence where they ranged widely during the Silurian. Two large specimens inhabit this limestone matrix that exhibit fine detail in their calyx, plates and pinnules. The naturally dark grey crinoids contrast well with the reddish matrix and numerous crinoid stems are present.
