This
amber specimen contains a very rare Symphylan, measuring 10 mm. Symphylans
are one of the four subclasses of Myriapoda and are the siteless and
lowly cousins of centipedes. This is the only one I have ever discovered
in order among thousands of pieces. Other inclusions are a spider
and 7 insects, including a extremely well-preserved Alate,
or flying termite, a stingless bee, and very large Dipteran. |
