Rare Beetle, 6 Spiders & Other Insects in Fossil Amber

Name: Amber with insects (Coleoptera; Diptera; Hymenoptera; Spiders)

Age: Pleistocene to Pliocene

Size: mm (25.4mm=1 inch): 52 by 38 mm

Location: Andes mountains in Colombia

Code: a270

Price: $85.00 - Sold

Foremost in this amber specimen is a rare beetle, deemed rare in that it is the very first I've ever seen. Features visible do not enable distinquishing between two families of beetle, Coccinellidae (the beloved ladybird beetle) and Cassidinae (tortoise beetle) -- either is a rare find.

The specimen also contains a plethora of other ancient rainforest fauna: 6 spiders, though the two largest perforate the surface, 6 Dipterans and 2 flying ants.
