Planthopper in Fossil AmberThe central attraction in this specimen is one of the largest and best Planthoppers (Homopterans) I've encountered in amber. The specimen from Superfamily Fulgeroidae measures 8 by 9 mm. Cohabiting the resin tomb are 10 other insect inclusions: a nice flying ant (Hymenoptera); another Homopteran, 2 beetles (Coleoptera), 6 Dipterans and a caddis fly (trichoptera).

The amber specimen that exhibits extraordinary clarity and is an unusual deep honey color would be magnificent even without the insects inclusions.
