Peipiaosteus Fish Fossil Description: An interesting ventral (underside) of this species. This one portrays excellent preservation of the pelvic and pectoral fins, as well as the bottom of the skull. There are no cracks or repairs to the plate. It would make an excellent example of a fossil from the “feathered dinosaur” region of China to add to your fossil fish collection.

This fish is a member of the Acipenseriformes or Sturgeon-like fishes and a member of the recently-erected Peipiaostidae. It is the first of the Acipenseriformes discovered in China, and is closely related to Stichopterus.
