5.3 inch by 4.0 inch piece of matrix displays THREE complete and one
disarticulated members of the Order Proetida, Family Otarionidae from
the Devonian Lamrakeb region deposits near Alnif, Morocco commonly
known as the "Devil's Horned" Cyphaspis. These NATURAL (not
composited), fine specimens vary in length, 1.2-1.5 inches long from
the tips of their Devil's horns to the tip of the elongated thoracic
spine, and 0.7 - 1.0 inches wide at the genals. A lot of time is spent
preparing all the spines freestanding, but it is worth it to see such
a dramatic specimen as the result. The detail is exquisite, with the
pustulose galbellas and fine eyestalks in full relief. As is often
the case with spiny bugs from Morocco, there has been some repair
to the spines (NOT restoration). If this were not enough, there is
a FIFTH 1.5 inch example, not fully prepped out, on the reverse side,
making for a truly spectacular piece. |
