Description: This is a stromatolite as found in its natural un-cut form with the exception of one side that has been cut and polished to show the distinctive stromatolitic structure. A most unique feature is that this example is inordinately young for stromatolites. This particular structure, given the name Chlorellopsis, while presumed to have been the result of algal biological origin, may have actually been the result of multiple and competing prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms.

Stromatolites have persisted to the modern day in such places as Shark Bay, Australia where they continue their billions of years old lifestyle. While this piece would make a fine present for any natural history buff, anyone who appreciates art would also be glad to get thus wonderful specimen as a gift.
