Description: A magnificent example of the ammonite Quenstedticeras of the Callovian Stage (161 m.y.a) deposits of Russia. The depositional environment was one that was also anoxic, allowing replacement by Iron Pyrite (Fool's Gold). The ammonite has been sectioned to allow you to see the many chambers within which the ammonite added as it grew. The septa (divisions) between chambers appears as a light line. Some pyrite adheres to the surface as seen in the photos. I received a number of split halves such as this, and offer them to those who want an inexpensive example. For those skilled in jewelry making, this could be fashioned into a wonderful pendant.
