Description: This plaque of amber displays a most ususual Planthopper (Order Homoptera, Family Fulgoridae) 5 mm long. The Fulgoridae houses the largest of the Planthoppers, some of which have unusual rostral projections such as this one. I have NEVER seen an example such as this one before. In life, the rostrum would have projected out straight in front of the insect, but this one has been bent to the side, probably as the specimen struggled to free itself from its sticky prison. The Dipteran contingent includes a pair of members of the Family Phoridae, or scuttle flies, so named for the way in which they scurry about. This is a UNIQUE specimen, the likes of which I have not come across in over 6,000 amber specimens from the region. If you are looking for a most unusual inclusion, look no further.
